About Us

The WKA is a non-commercial organisation conceptualised and developed by professionals with proven credentials in education through distance learning. It is delivered through an interactive electronic platform to enable an evidence-based, cost-effective approach to managing patients with kidney disease and those who received organ transplantation. This ambitious endeavour, an asynchronous global ward round, will bridge a massive hiatus in clinical practice by fostering a live interaction between healthcare professionals from different countries. There is a dire need to help, guide, mentor and support our colleagues committed to healthcare systems looking after patients from low- and middle-income backgrounds.

This program emphasises the practical implementation of clinical nephrology, bone health and organ transplantation. WKA is based on equipping clinicians with scientific analysis of evidence in a learning environment that encourages questioning the current practice, consistently fine-tuning clinical skills, and fostering reasoning for the most pragmatic approach. WKA is your institution as your knowledge enriches it just by participation. It enhances self-learning by garnering the support of experienced colleagues around the globe with whom you share your challenges

Mission

Mission

We aim to provide high-quality and evidence-based clinical education at an affordable cost to cover the expenses as well as free education and training. This is based on an asynchronous online delivery mode that helps to bridge the time zone difference and, thereby, provides a platform for learning opportunities to busy clinicians without the need to take time off work and saves the cost of travel.

Moreover, we plan to provide hands-on clinical training and help young colleagues develop clinical skills by establishing international workshops to bridge their self-identified gaps in their clinical training. WKA aims to improve clinical reasoning and critical thinking essential for informed decision-making.

Vision

The WKA pledges to:

  • Improve the standards of care for patients with kidney diseases and organ transplantation.
  • Facilitate the development of a scientific understanding of managing kidney disease and organ transplantation.

Values

WKA’s teaching and training programs are delivered by experienced clinicians from various reputable national and international centers to enhance exposure to a broad spectrum of clinical experience. The educational modalities include online lectures, videoconferencing for interactive sessions, case-based discussions, critical appraisal of scientific papers, problem-solving exercises, and face-to-face workshops.

An optional tele-education through videoconferencing in each module would enhance the students’ engagement with the learning process. These synchronous interactive sessions will be recorded and posted to all students.

We endeavour to improve our fellows’ academic writing, critical appraisal, and patient-handling skills so that they adopt the principles of evidence-based medicine as guided by experts in the field through audio lectures and feedback on an electronic blackboard.

Our programs are designed for all healthcare professionals (doctors, nurse practitioners, and laboratory scientists). This helps us to promote the quality improvement and safety of healthcare delivery.
Our mission is to:

  1. Bridge the gaps in kidney care through collaborations, advocacy and partnership with global allies and professionals.

  2. Build capacity in healthcare professionals via educational programs and training by providing up-to-date knowledge in the field.

Equality and Diversity

The principles of equality and diversity are at the heart of all those who believe in WKA by appreciating variations in cultural traditions, ethnic differences, and the resources at their disposal. WKA encourages innovation to provide optimal patient care, considering the resource limitations specific to healthcare settings.
