Welcome Messages

Dear clinicians dedicated to kidney failure patients,

Oman Kidney Transplantation Program, established in 1988 as a joint venture between Sultan Qaboos University and the Ministry of Health, has been at the forefront of organ transplantation in the country. Over decades, living-related donor transplantation blossomed into a prestigious endeavour. However, there is plenty of scope for improvement in deceased donor transplantation facilities. The biggest hurdle has been the need for more training and education.

The Deceased Donor Transplantation Workshop aims to close this gap and provide healthcare providers with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform successful deceased donor transplants. Implementing evidence-based training will advance healthcare in the Sultanate and, thereby, help save lives. Transplant physicians and transplant surgeons who actively participate in this asynchronous, totally online skill development course will be able to cross the critical threshold of providing world-class care.

This intensive educational program aligns seamlessly with the vision and mission of those who oversee healthcare in the Ministry of Health in the Sultanate of Oman.

Dear Esteemed Healthcare Providers,

Your ever-increasing interest in promoting deceased donor transplantation in the Sultanate of Oman is, indeed, noble and praiseworthy. Promoting such a training programme will go a long way in helping our patients for whom chronic kidney disease is almost like a ‘death sentence’. Not only would it save lives, but it would also enable optimal use of precious, though limited, resources. By sharing our vision, exchanging ideas, promoting excellence, and joining hands, we shall be able to establish this long-awaited program.

Deceased organ donation aligns seamlessly with the collective vision to enhance the organ transplantation framework within the Sultanate of Oman.

By attending this workshop, you will be at the forefront of a cultural shift towards embracing deceased organ donation, which is crucial for the success of transplantation programs.

The deceased organ donation workshop will let us come together to learn, share, and pave the way for a future where every patient in need has hope for a new lease on life. Your expertise and active involvement are vital in realising the Ministry’s vision for Oman’s robust organ transplantation system.

Welcome to the Deceased Donor Transplantation Workshop

This workshop programme, a unique flagship programme, is offered wholly online. It is structured as one 20-credit module (Master’s level/level 7) delivered by experts in deceased donor transplantation, an emerging form of transplantation in your country that poses a clinical challenge to the healthcare system.

We are very pleased you have chosen to start the next stage of your training with us, with a massive investment to improve our resources for all our students and to recruit appropriately qualified national and international clinicians to inform and

deliver our curriculum to ensure that all we deliver is current, evidence-based and research connected.

We aim to give you a valuable and satisfying learning and training experience. To achieve this successfully, our experience is a partnership between us as tutors and students. This wholly online workshop will establish your peer support/learning via the online discussion group and journal club. You will learn things from us as well as from each other. Most importantly, you will also discover things for yourself.

We would particularly urge you to keep in touch with the Programme Director, Professor Ahmed Halawa, Consultant Transplant Surgeon, at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, United Kingdom.

Previous experience in renal transplantation is an essential requirement for admission. This workshop is suitable for nephrologists, transplant surgeons, intensive care physicians and any other related subspecialties that deals with renal transplantation.

Admission is open for All International Students in a Part-time Capacity. The module will be delivered over 6 weeks and will comprise the:

Benefits

The total number of scheduled learning and teaching hours is 60 hours/module (24 hours of directed student activity and 36 hours of student self-directed learning activity). This varies from one learner to another.

Additional time is provided to guide the students during the assessment (formal and informal). Our materials will be issued in a cycle every 7 days (please see the timetable provided for each module). Emphasis will be placed upon developing effective clinical reasoning strategies based upon the use of ‘best evidence’ and critical reflection of practice.

Knowledge about the deceased donor transplantation is an essential prerequisite for a successful programme and achieving a satisfactory outcome.

The workshop addresses higher-order thinking and reflective practice rather than pure theory and didactic teaching needed for mature clinicians to endure evidence-based decision-making.
Please join us to enjoy a new learning experience.
